Chewy Junior – The best cream puff in town

According to some financial analysts, Asian countries including Philippines can become the business investment center of the world. True enough, based on my sister who is in Singapore, business establishments are like mushrooms despite it’s a small country. Here in the Philippines, different foreign countries have been investing their businesses as part of their global expansion.
Hoping that this will continue and corruption will never interfere.
In connection, one of the most popular pastry shop in Singapore is already in the Philippines. The Chewy Junior which focuses on cream puffs, is in the Philippines since 2010. I actually tasted this way back in 2009 where my sister brought it from Singapore. The first time it came into my mouth I instantly got hooked. And have been asking it whenever my sister goes home. When the time that I found out that it is already in the Philippines, I was happy.
Chewy Junior was founded by Kevin Ong in 2007. Ong worked for a hotel as a catering manager, as Product Application Manager and many more jobs where he always lead culinary group. His 2007 store was his third attempt.
The Store and The Crew
According to the website, there are four Chewy Junior stores in the Philippines. They are in SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, Trinoma, and Greenbelt. Me and a friend dined in the Trinoma branch which is located in the second floor near Yellow Cab Pizza and Starbucks Coffee. We went there about 10 am where the branch just opened, that’s why the products displayed are not yet complete.
The place is good, the tables are placed with enough spaces for the diners to move comfortably while the chairs are soft to make you relaxed while dining in. No extra ordinary ambiance, just imagine a mall.
In terms of cleanliness, I can say that they’ve passed my standard, the branch was quite open that’s why you can see that things that crews are doing. There is a huge oven inside the crew’s area that’s why I can say that they make cream puffs from scratch. The floors, chairs and tables are also clean.
To be honest, I am quite impressed on how the crews, JV and Rochelle perform their tasks. Rochelle takes care of making the puffs while JV is at the counter. Rochelle answers all my questions great and when I asked her to bring out some of the puffs that she is making so I can take pictures, she smiled and granted my wish.

The fillings is cream cheese mixture that comes not too sweet and not too bland, with kicks of little sour kicks and really creamy. For me the feelings are just enough for me to enjoy it without getting fed up.
They use as special mixing bowl with a tube that pushes the filling from the bowl to the cream puffs. I watch Rochelle make some puffs and being a cooking fanatic, I wanted to try it.
The Taste, Texture and Verdict
The cream puff of the Chewy Junior is no ordinary pastry. Just imagine this, soft and chewy bread skin with thick creamy fillings inside. The fillings inside were compressed on a way that when you bite, the fillings will explode which is quite a very rare moment. There are even times that you you bite, you will try to catch the falling fillings. This just shows that the company don’t thrift the fillings.
The puffs are topped with different mixtures to where they derived the variety/flavor.
I love all the flavor, ok, I confess, haven’t tasted all. But, particularly, I enjoyed the Almond Sweetheart among those I tasted. The nuts on top adds more chewy and sometimes crunchy bits. I also love the Chewy Ensaymada flavor that comes with cheddar cheese on top. The saltiness of the cheese compliments the fillings and bread well. When you bite there is a distinct and unexplained conflicting tastes that can make your mouth waters.
I asked my friend who is a first timer for the treats, she agreed with me that it’s quite good. She’s not an avid fan of pastries that’s why she only finished a single cream puff, but she’s quite convinced. I also asked her about the crew’s performances, the place and many more. Like me, she’s quite impressed with the crews, but she suggested that Chewy Junior should move to a place where there is a closed space, not just in the mall lobby, to which, I agree.
In just passing by the store, you’ll smell the aroma of the cream puffs which will going to tease you to try the little fellows. The taste willjust prove you more.
If you will look on the price alone, it’s a little pricey. But, I am encouraging everyone to try the treats and you’ll see that it’s quite worthy. Just believe in the saying that quality sometimes comes in a price.
Me, my sisters, nieces and brother all agreed, the treats is a thing to die for.
