The Miss Wa Noodles and Rice is a stall catering to people who want to immediately satisfy their stomach growls. It offers some of the well-sought Pinoy favorites such as lumpiang shanghai, siomai, and siopao. Plus, fronting an extraordinary dish that only a few offer.

The Locations

The stall where I dined is located along Dahlia Avenue near FEU Hospital. According to the Misswa Facebook page, there are already many branches around Metro Manila, which also include nearby schools like Ateneo, La Salle, and the university belt.

The stall design resembles the burger stands that boomed during the early millennium, with tall fixed chairs and aluminum tables, probably encouraging quickie dining. The combination of green and white is quite appealing to me.

The best about Miss Wa is that all locations are available 24 hours.

The Taiwan Miswa

The Taiwan Misswa is considerably the signature dish of this establishment. It is a flavorful vermicelli soup made special with pork intestines, meatballs, onion leeks, and seasonings. The crews will always remind the diners that the soup is best with a few drops of the special vinegar.

The Taiwan Misswa is utterly delicious and it’s one of the dishes that I will never forget to order. I’m not a fan of the vinegar, though.

Lumpiang Shanghai with Rice

The lumpiang Shanghai from Miss Wa is the best-looking shanghai I’ve seen. It’s like a work of art that is carefully tailored to be Instagram-worthy. However, unlike many food establishments, Miss Wa didn’t sacrifice the taste. The looks and the quality are well-balanced. Moreover, the serving fits the price perfectly.

I’ll put this lumpia on the higher list because I can say that the meat used is fresh while the added vegetables complement each other creating an explosive party in the mouth. The best part is that this is cooked to order and deep-fried so you can enjoy the crispy skin.

Crispy Chicken Chops

The crispy chicken chop is a chicken fillet offered by Miss Wa. Just like the shanghai, this is deep-fried until crispy and paired with a cheese sauce. I also enjoy this because it’s crispy and flavorful. Though I’m not a cheese lover, I can say that the bland breading of the chicken complements well with the salty and creamy flavor of the cheese. I still prefer the chili sauce and soymansi as a dip.

The meat is thin and frozen, that’s why there are times that they used to serve me with a dry fillet.

Siomai Rice

Of course, there’s fried or steamed siomai that will be paired with a cup of steaming rice. Though I can say, this is still considered delicious, it was not astounding. A little better than the siomai bought in local markets but not as delicious as the premium ones.

You can enjoy this meal with unlimited chili garlic and soymansi.

Pork Sisig

This is the food that kept me confused. Unlike the usual sisig, this one is a bit dry and the color is a little darker.  I’m not sure but I think they add little to no mayonnaise and probably, it came frozen. It is also served in a paper bowl on top of rice, which I’m not a fan.

Though it’s a bit different, it’s still tasty.

Silvanas

Simple but amazing… that is Misswa’s Silvanas. It’s crunchy but not too sweet, which is what I want. The creamy fillings add more explosive flavor but won’t overpower the wafer. Overall, this is the best silvanas in terms of price vs quality.

However, this should be consumed immediately. Otherwise, it will lapse and will become soft.

Iced Coffee

The iced coffee is quite good as well. It’s brewed and the sugar is not overpowering. What I like about this is that you can still smell the aroma and taste the bitterness of the coffee — just like the classic ones. No extra, no fancy things, just coffee.

Miss Wa is Awesome

Miss Wa is one heck of a business. The owners knew that some of the biggest chains in the country don’t cater fresh hot soup as well as cook-to-order meals and took advantage of them. Now, people near Miss Wa can easily satisfy their stomach juices with foods Pinoys love without breaking the bank.

I’m hoping that Miss Wa Noodles and Rice branches out to as many locations as possible so many people can now enjoy such foods.

One of the most unraveling movies I watched is the 2007 film “Awake” featuring Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba. It involves a nurse (Alba) who seduced a young but sick billionaire (Christensen) and later had a relationship with him. Then, they secretly married before his heart surgery that turned out to be botched in connivance with the doctor, who happened to be his friend. They want to acquire his wealth. However, because of a mother’s love, he was saved.

Watch the film, guys. It’s amazing! The twist of the events, especially during the latter parts, is breath-taking.

The Tapawarma

Speaking of twist, one stall that gave a twist to Filipinos’ comfort food is the Tapawarma. Well, from the name itself, it features tapa that is wrapped in a tortilla bread along with vegetables and other ingredients. It’s like the well-loved shawarma, however, the meat used is tapa. As time goes by, the store sells different products.

According to the website, the brand, which was established in 2017, is the brain-child of a struggling couple after a downfall. During the start, the couple was hands-on and have invested pain and blood. Now, the cart can now be seen in 50 locations and the company is aiming to have 500 carts in five years.

You can check all the branches here. I bought my Tapawarma in Ever Gotesco, which is located on the ground floor, after attending a church service before the pandemic. Unfortunately, I was not able to take good pictures since the mall was jampacked.

What is the Menu?

The stall sells the following:

Tapawarma Wrap

This is the pillar of the store. As mentioned above, this is a tapa wrapped with tortilla bread along with vegetables, condiments, and seasonings. This is the product that I ordered because I was about to go home when I stumbled with the stall.

Tapawarma Rice

According to Tapawarma’s Facebook fan page, this is the best seller. Well, I was not surprised since the Filipinos love eating tapa with rice. Well, it’s rice with the company’s signature tapa along with cheese, mayonnaise, mixed veggies, and other ingredients that are served in an attractive cup.

Tapawarma Noodles

A breakthrough in the wrap stalls, this product features noodles tapped with the signature tapa, mixed vegetables, cheese sauce, and garlic sauce that is served in the fabulous paper bowl.

Tapawarma Longwich

Another first in the industry, the Tapawarma Longwich is a substitute for people who wants thick bread. It is a hotdog bun filled with the signature tapa along with mixed veggies, cheese sauce, garlic sauce, and optional hot sauce.

Tapawarma Nachos

A delightful treat for chips addicts, the Tapawarma Nachos is like any other nachos but the meat is tapa. It is served with a paper plate and best eaten with your fingers.

The Stall Personnel

The stall personnel was amazing. He was polite and prompt in taking orders. I used to take pictures when he was preparing and I noticed he slowed down and even came to the point of not moving so I can have good shots.

He also granted my request of adding more mayonnaise.

The Bible Verse

What’s great is the bible verse written in the wrapper of the Tapawarma wrap. I actually felt good about it since I just attended church when I bought one. It actually pumped me to review the stall because of the same belief.

Well, we all need some divine push sometimes.

Verdict

Because of the pandemic, Tapawarma wrap is the only dish on the menu that I tasted. I actually liked it. I love how the sweet and soft tortilla bread complements the salty tapa. The bland mayonnaise, spicy kicks of the hot sauce, and crunch from the vegetables add delight to my to-go meal.

With the breakthrough high-quality products, Instagrammable presentation, a great way to tell the words, and well-trained personnel, Tapawarma is such a recommended food stall.

Last week, despite that the planned dinner with my friends was cancelled, I still didn’t waste the opportunity of going out. Simply because going out for me is a rare opportunity. I just took a stroll at SM Fairview instead of wasting my outfit.

I then stumbled with this stall that features brownies and other desserts. The stall is super attractive.

The Brownies Unlimited

In places like malls, parks, areas near schools, and train stations, your business should stand out. It should show eye-popping features that will make the visitors drool and take a look.

So, in an SM-full-of-stalls, be Brownies Unlimited.

Brownies Unlimited, according to its website, was established in 1989 selling three classic flavors — the Walnut Swirl, Rocky Road, and Choc O’ Chips. Now, the company has more than a dozen varieties.

Aside from Brownies, the stall is also selling cookies, cupcakes, sambos, silvanas, brownie chips, cookie chips, and brownie pizza.

As of March 2020, the company now has 34 stalls nationwide, including one in SM Lanang Premier in Mindanao.

Location and The Cart

The SM Fairview stall is located at Ground Level, just near the department store, Red Ribbon and a 5-minute walk from the main entrance.

I found the stall great because the products are displayed appetizingly. The stall peeps were friendly and approachable, and the stall is quite clean and well maintained. I’ll give the personnel thumbs up.

You will also get your orders in less than a minute. I’m even surprised that my order is already waiting for me or I’m just busy taking pictures. Once again, thumbs up.

Products and Prices

The website enumerated 11 flavors of brownies, two brownie bars, eight cupcakes, two cakes, a Sambos and Silvanas.

A single brownie will cost you P29-35.00. If you’ll buy per box, you will save more. The “Box of 12” is the largest order available. It will cost you P240.00, a price that is for me, a little high despite the personnel said that you will save P100.00.

Taste and Conclusion

The brownies are moist, which one characteristic that I dig for. One brownie is super soft, it melts in your mouth.

However, there are some varieties that already have crunchy parts. As a baking fanatic, I know that brownies will soon become crispy once left in the freezer.

The taste? Still delicious. But, not the one I will hurriedly buy.

I haven’t tried the cakes, sambos, and silvanas. I will update you guys in case I bought one.

As I said, I’m a brownies lover. I tried buying them from different businesses. For me, the best brownies are those being sold by home cooks, mothers, and Facebook sellers. They are freshly baked (sometimes, still warm), moist, and a little cheaper compared to those being sold in the malls.

The Brownie Unlimited is still recommended.
