The ginisang bunga ng malunggay is a favorite dish of many Filipinos. The fruit of this nutrient-packed vegetable features hard skin but jelly-like inside that makes it a perfect ingredient for a Pinoy dish. The flavor is insanely addicting as well.

For me, the best way to cook this is by simply sauteing it with very little seasoning. Quite good even without meat.

This ginisang bunga ng malunggay features fried bangus and the flavor was enhanced using bagoong isda.

Ingredients

6-8 pieces malunggay fruit

1 bundle malunggay leaves

1 bundle saluyot

3 pieces tomatoes – chopped

1 medium bangus – chopped

1/4 cup boneless bagoong isda

3 cloves garlic – finely minced

1 medium red onion – chopped

a teaspoon of chopped ginger

1 cup water

oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Procedure

Fry the bangus until crispy. Set aside.

In a pan, saute garlic and onion.

Add the chopped ginger and let simmer for about a minute.

Then, add the tomatoes and let them simmer until the skins peel off.

Add the malunggay fruits and let simmer.

Add water and let it boil until the malunggay fruits are cooked.

Season with salt, pepper, and bagoong isda.

Add the malunggay leaves and saluyot. Remove the pan from the heat and let the steam cook the leaves.

Top with the fried bangus.

Serve and enjoy.

Notes

To give more flavor, use the oil you used in frying the bangus in sauteing.

You can adjust the amount of bagoong isda based on your preferences.

You can also adjust the water incase that the malunggay leaves are not yet cooked.

Aside from bangus, this is also good for pritong galunggong and tilapia.

This ginisang bunga ng malunggay is best with hot rice and cola on the side.

This Sinigang na Bangus Recipe is not hard to make. Just don’t mix after putting the bangus because you will end up with a crashed meal.

Two days ago, I and my best friend went to watch “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.” The movie is astonishing but saddening at the same time.

Though purely fantasy, the movie catapulted people’s emotions, especially those pet owners. I related to the last part where Hiccup let go of Toothless because the dragon, as an alpha, had to lead a kingdom of Dragons along with his newly-found light fury.

It’s indeed hard to let go of a pet that you treated as a part of your family.

Well, Toothless and I have something in common: we both love to eat fish.

Just recently, I cooked Sinigang na Bangus. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

1 kilo bangus, cleaned, scales and innards removed, and sliced

1/2 kilo tamarind

1 bundle talbos ng kamote, chopped

5 pieces medium tomatoes, chopped

5 pieces okra, chopped

1 bundle string beans, chopped

1 medium radish, peeled and sliced

4 cloves garlic

2 medium onion

2 thumb size ginger

7 cups water

Salt and pepper to taste

Prepare the Sour Juice:

In a pan, put the tamarind and water. Boil for about 10 minutes.

Crush the tamarind and strain well.

Set Aside.

Read: Sinigang na Bisugo at Hipon Recipe

Cook (Sinigang na Bangus Recipe):

In a pot, boil 6 cups of water.

Add the garlic, onion, ginger, and tomatoes. Put into boil until the skin of the tomatoes peel off.

Add the string beans. Then, boil.

Put the radish and okra. Boil until the vegetables are cooked.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Add the tamarind juice then put into a boil.

Put the fish then boil for about 5 minutes.

Add the talbos ng kamote then boil for about 1 minutes.

Cover the pot and let it rest.

Serve and enjoy.

Bangus Steak is fried and then drizzled with an amazing sauce. It’s superb!

Mothers love spending time in the kitchen cooking for their children and they will never get tired in doing it for them, whatever the circumstances and whatever the age or marital status of their children are.

My body is already twice the size of my momma, but there are times that when I get out of my room (I work home base), she will always greet me with a smile and will offer something — a dish that she cooked.

She also loves to experiment and will ask me to judge. Just a few days ago, she showed her experiment she called “Bangus Steak” and it was fantastic. I asked for her recipe and she happily obliged.

What is Bangus Steak?

Bangus steak is simply defined as fried milkfish that is drizzled with a special sauce and garnished with onion and roasted garlic. For this specific recipe, it is recommended that you use bangus belly for crunchy bites.

Read: Rellenong Bangus Recipe

Ingredients:

4 pieces boneless bangus strips

1 medium red onion, sliced horizontally

2 cloves onion, minced

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1/4 cup flour mixture (dilute 1 teaspoon flour in water)

1 tablespoon brown sugar

oil for frying

Coat it with flour and deep fry. Set aside.

Make the Sauce:

Saute garlic until golden brown. Set aside.

Saute half of the onion until it caramelizes.

Add flour mixture, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Boil until the sauce thickens.

Final Touches:
