1 cup coconut milk

water

salt and pepper to taste

Procedure

Saute garlic, onion, and ginger. Let it simmer until aromatic.

Add the kalabasa and a little water. Let it boil.

Add the string beans and let it simmer.

Put the coconut milk and boil until the sauce reduces.

Season with salt and pepper.

Add the sugpo and let it boil for a few minutes.

Cover and let it rest.

Serve and enjoy.

Notes

Clean the sugpo properly. You can do with a running water from a faucet while rubbing it with your finger. You should also cut the antenna.

Don’t over cook the sugpo. Otherwise, it will become rubbery. One indication that it’s already cook is when it forms the letter “C”. Don’t let it form to “G” or it will be chewy.

When cooked, the kalabasa will disintegrate and will combine with the coconut milk.

When the sauce reduces, it will produce oil, which will add this wonderful flavor.

Have you been suffering from a persistent stomach ailment and want to check out foods for upset stomach? If so, there is no need to worry about it as it is common these days. But the thing that makes it dangerous is not paying heed to the solution of these issues.

I will cover twelve famous and easy-to-digest foods for their excellent results in improving stomach upset. So, delve into the article to discover more.

Yogurt

Some types of yogurt contain probiotics that give you various digestive benefits. But sometimes yogurt is subjected to pasteurization that kills the essential bacteria present in it.

Therefore, if you want to enjoy the yogurt goods, you have to go for the yogurt with live cultures. By reading the description, you will get to know whether it contains probiotics or not.

Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria are some vital probiotics, and there is various evidence that proved them effective against a colon disease named IBS.

A study suggests that those who take fermented yogurt (which contains Bifidobacteria) regularly are more likely to get rid of the bothersome symptoms of IBS.

Furthermore, some studies have proved their benefits on diarrhea and constipation as well. Therefore, if you eat a sufficient amount of yogurt daily, you can quickly get rid of various gut issues unless you have severe issues.

Ginger

If you face nausea and vomiting, it is clear that your stomach is not working correctly. Such situations can decrease your productivity and make you feel unwell. So, it is necessary to recover from such pains by eating any natural remedy.

Ginger is a root that has a good fragrance, and you can eat it. It has flesh in yellow color along with its root. Most commonly, people who are feeling the symptoms mentioned above took this food item.

You have various options to use ginger. You can take it in raw form, with hot water, tea, etc. In addition to that, you can use it as a supplement. It is beneficial in every form so that you can opt for any depending upon your choice.

Pregnant women usually suffer from a condition named morning sickness. Therefore, expected ladies could go for ginger to get relief from nausea and vomiting.

People who are on chemotherapy or any other intense surgery or medication may feel nausea. So, ginger can lend a helping hand in making them feel well.

Individuals who have the problem of motion sickness can take the ginger to help avoid them from intense symptoms of such conditions.

Be careful about the portion of ginger you are taking if you exceed 5 grams in a day. Then there is the possibility that you will get stomach aches or a burning sensation named heartburn.

Chamomile

Chamomile is a renowned herbal plant that tends to solve issues related to the stomach. It has flowers that are in white. To take the chamomile, firstly, you have to dry it, then you have to grind it.

Now, it is ready to enjoy as tea; moreover, if you are comfortable, you can take it as a supplement. In the past, chamomile, specifically its tea, was extensively used to solve various digestive tract issues such as indigestion, nausea, gas, and vomiting.

Although it had significantly utilized the stomach, only a few studies can support the effectiveness of chamomile against gut-related complications.

Moreover, chamomile is present in many supplements and baby colic formulated for bloating, diarrhea, indigestion, and gas.

However, no evident study can show the mechanism of chamomile working in soothing your digestive issues.

Licorice

Licorice is a powerful remedy for preventing a severe stomach condition named an ulcer. Nowadays, it is not consumed as it is but converted into the deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL). After transforming into this, you can take it as a supplement.

In DGL, the glycyrrhizin is not present in the licorice, a chemical present in the licorice. This chemical can be harmful and can cause an imbalance in your body’s fluid, low levels of potassium, and blood pressure. Therefore, avoid taking it in larger quantities if you are taking root.

It reduces the inflammation on the lining of your stomach. Additionally, it enhances the quantity of mucous production. In this way, your stomach will get protected from the acid.

Therefore, we can say that licorice is a beneficial herb. It can play a significant role in protecting you from ulcers and stomach acids.

Kimchi

Fermented food like Kimchi is one of good foods for upset stomach. It can play a significant role in combating gut-related issues. It can make your intestinal health better, so your chances of getting diarrhea and constipation can diminish.

Additionally, it can enhance the number of good bacteria in your gut. Kimchi is a Korean dish made up of fermenting vegetables such as ginger, cabbage, peppers, napa added in a seasoned brine for those who do not know.

Papaya

Papaya is a fruit that has orange-colored pulp. This fruit can solve your issues related to indigestion. It is an impeccable remedy for ulcers. In addition to that, it helps your body fight against parasites.

Pawpaw has the papain in it- a powerful enzyme that divides the protein into pieces that you have taken in your diet. In this way, your body can absorb the food without any problem.

Sometimes the body’s natural process of producing enzymes is not working correctly. Therefore, it can prove a wise choice to go for any food like papaya with an enzyme. So, your body can perform its function efficiently.

Moreover, in West African countries, residents use it as a remedy against stomach ulcers. In this regard, animal studies have been conducted, but no study has been conducted on humans so far.

Seeds of papaya can help kill the parasites living in your gut. These parasites can cause you the complications of abdominal discomfort. Moreover, you may get malnutrition.

Various studies have demonstrated that the seeds have exceptional anti-parasitic properties that increase the number of parasites in the child’s stool. In this way, your children will get rid of harmful parasites, and their growth will not retard.

Oatmeal

Aged people usually suffer from constipation, so they have to go for laxatives. Although these medicines are effective and they can bring improvements. But the problem is these medicines can reduce their weight, and they have several side effects.

According to several studies, the outermost layer of grain named the oat brain is highly rich in fiber. Hence, it can assist in getting rid of constipation in older adults.

Oatmeal has a soluble fiber called beta-glucan in it. This fiber dissolves in the water and results in making a solution (gel-like) in the gut. Beta-glucan can elevate the number of digestive tract’s good bacteria so your gut health will get better.

Often our stomachs become upset when we eat food frequently or in large quantities. Oatmeal has another advantage that by eating them, you will feel full after eating the porridge. So, by having this delicious food in your breakfast, you may lose weight.

Sauerkraut

Before diving into the benefits of sauerkraut for gut health, it is paramount to know what the sauerkraut is actually. It is a kind of fermented cabbage that provides various health benefits.

Sauerkraut, in unpasteurized form, has essential nutrients named probiotics. They are the front-line fighter against the bacteria that can deteriorate the health of your digestive system. Hence, it performs a significant role in the maintenance of your overall gut health.

Moreover, probiotics can lend a helping hand in solving constipation, bloating, and diarrhea. By consuming sauerkraut, you can get relief from the symptoms of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.

Peppermint

An upset stomach can be a consequence of a condition named IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). This complication is chronic as it affects your gut and results in constipation, diarrhea, and bloating.

Although IBS is a serious issue, according to several studies, peppermint is an efficient food to alleviate the symptoms of this syndrome. If IBS patients take peppermint oil capsules for two weeks regularly, they can reduce the disorder’s symptoms to a great extent.

Peppermint oil makes your muscles relax, so your spasms can become less severe. Hence, you will get rid of diarrhea and intense pain as they are due to intestinal spasms.

Most individuals find it safe to take peppermint, but there are rare cases as well. In that situation, patients with gallbladder or liver issues, kidney stones, Hiatal hernias, and reflux may get side effects, and they can get into the worst situation.

So, we suggest they avoid taking peppermint and go for the other medications prescribed by their doctors.

Flaxseeds

Flaxseed has called Linseed as well. It is a seed that has a small size. Linseed or flaxseed has the potential to assist you in getting rid of constipation by regulating your bowel movements.

Constipation is a severe issue, and it becomes even worse if you leave it untreated. In this way, it may turn to chronic constipation. It is the condition in which you pass less than three stools in a week.

This disorder is highly uncomfortable and unpleasant. Therefore, you must prevent it by eating a healthy diet that includes items that can provide you relief from this chronic pain.

To take flaxseeds, you have two options: one is to eat in raw form, or you can opt for the flaxseed oil too. We will suggest you soak it overnight and then in the morning take it with water or any other fluid.

Adults with constipation can take 4ml of this seed every day. We will recommend continuously consuming it for two weeks to get better results. It will not only make your bowel movements more regular but make them consistent better too.

Various studies have carried out on animals, proving the sound effects of flaxseeds on patients with stomach ulcers, but there is no study on humans so far.

Applesauce

Applesauce is convenient to eat and therefor, one of the most delicious foods for upset stomach. In addition to that, it contains a bulk of essential nutrients, including pectin. Pectin is a type of fiber. It can readily dissolve in the water. So, the stool will increase, and your diarrhea will go away.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin is a vegetable loaded with fiber and potassium, and therefor, a food for upset stomach. It contains less sugar and starch. That’s why it will not cause a burden to your stomach and will digest conveniently.

If you face vomiting, nausea, and acid reflux complications, it can be the solution to your problem. This unique vegetable has the potential to give a soothing effect to your upset stomach.

Eat these Foods for Upset Stomach

To wrap up the discussion, I will say that consuming junk foods has increased to an alarming extent. People are now more prone to eat and live an unhealthy life.

Therefore, stomach-related issues are more common than ever before. Fortunately, nature has gifted us with many best foods to improve our gut health.

Are you looking for some ways to cook salmon? Well, try this adobong salmon.

Many of us can’t resist the awesome, milky, sumptuous salmon and for me, the way to cook this is just by lightly seasoning it with salt and pepper and then seared. Eating this raw is okay but I prefer it cooked.

My mother, who is not used to seared dishes wants her salmon cooked well. She said she doesn’t want this stinky after taste, which I really understand. She is also fed up with sinigang. So, to give in to her request, I cooked Adobong Salmon.

Well, she loved it. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

1/4 kilo salmon – cut crosswise

1 medium red onion – chopped

3 cloves garlic – minced

1/2 teaspoon chopped ginger

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup white vinegar

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 piece laurel leaf

Oil

Peppercorn

Salt

Read: Dried Adobong Atay At Balun-Balunan Recipe

Procedure

Season the salmon with salt. Let it rest.

Heat the oil for a few minutes before searing the salmon. Then, set aside.

Using the same pan, saute garlic, onion, and ginger.

Add the soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, peppercorn, and laurel leaf. Let it boil until thick.

Turn the heat to low.

Add the salmon and cover the pan. Let it sear for about 1 minute. Then, allow it to rest.

Serve and enjoy.

Notes

Let the salmon rest so that it will absorb most of the seasoning.

Heating the oil well will prevent the salmon from sticking.

While searing some of the oil of the salmon will mix, adding flavor to the sauce. So, you don’t need to worry if there’s flavor in the sauce.

You may just drizzle the sauce. It just cooked it for a few more minutes because of my well-done lover mother.

This is best with hot rice and an ice-cold cola.

You can other ingredients to the meatballs like cabbage, spring onions, moringa powder, and many more.

You can also sear the meatballs before putting them in the soup.

There are times that the amount of flour in this recipe might be too thick or too loose. When adjusting to add thickness, make sure you’ll dilute the flour in tap water. Never put the flour directly in the soup.

This simple meatballs soup is best with toasted bread at the side.

Did you ever wonder why some people hate the food you can eat everyday? Well, there’s a Science of taste. Read further to know more.

To stay away from too much political circus, I asked my boss if I can manage the company’s Twitter account instead of Facebook. He agreed.

I was having fun. It came to the point of retrieving my very first account and now I actively participate in non-news posts. One instance, I came up with the Twitter account IHateCilantro.com (@anticilantro), which is definitely and absolutely me.

I feel for the people who tweeted their disgust with cilantro or coriander. Dish soap? — yes, I always knew it. Isopropyl? — yup, most of the time. I also agree with people claiming that it smells horrific.

That’s when I thought of foods or drinks that many people love but I hate. Aside from cilantro, I also don’t like wine. Yes, you don’t want me as a drinking buddy because I found it bitter, and there this unimaginable taste. I felt weird about it because even my young nieces love that “earthly” aroma.

One time, I was embarrassed in a food expo when I and my companions stopped by a wine booth and had some free tastes. My friends enjoyed the wines. Some of them even appeared visualizing while trying to determine the flavors while I looked constipated because I can’t even concentrate because of the unexplained after taste.

I also don’t like black coffee, kale, and sugarless tea.

Read: Hand Pumpkin Pie Recipe

I recall a pastor saying that the bible explains how simple God is, and Science shows how complex our creator is. It came into my mind that there should be a Scientific explanation of why some people hate foods many people love.

I was saved by Science.

The Taste Receptors and Tongue Structures

In 1991, American psychologist Linda Bartoshuk coined terms to explain sensory factors to eating behavior. She explained that there are people with more taste receptors, making them sensitive to bitters and sweets. They are called supertasters.

Though not all taste Scientists use this method, supertasters are identified by either counting their papillae (bumps that house tastebuds) or placing their tongues to a PROP or a paper disk soaked in 6-n-propylthiouracil.

Supertasters are more sensitive to tastes. So, they can easily sense that “bitter” flavor in wines.

Blame Your Genes

Just like any flavors, we are all different. However, just like the aroma and taste, we are composed of similar things.

In an interview with Forbes Magazine, Tim Hanni, a wine and taste expert, explains that genetics can be a big contributing factor to why people found one food not delicious. He said OR26A is the genetic SNP (single nucleotide polymorphisms) that makes cilantro bitter and soapy.

Your Memory Slaps You

In the past, a friend of mine said the gum I gave her tastes like a comfort room, which made me laugh hysterically. I joked that she might have licked their bathroom.

It turned out that she might have been right. There are times that our brain uses our sense of smell in determining the flavor, and in the process, will be pulling out patterns of smells and tastes we had in the past. The gum she tasted is strawberry and bathroom deodorizers have odor variations, which also includes strawberry.

It’s All in the Mind

External influences such as psychological factors can also be considered as the reason why the taste of people varies. Way back, I used to enjoy green tea juice that is being served in the pantry of my former employer. My colleagues used to claim it tastes like moss and they constantly whine about it. Later, I just realize it indeed tastes like moss.

Respect Everyone’s Preferences

If your friend is an occasional drinker because he/she finds the taste of wine or alcoholic beverages not good, then respect it. We all have this unexplained issues towards food.

There’s already Science of taste, which explains why people’s food choice differ.

Are you looking for dishes that you can cook using limited supplies because of this quarantine period? Well, check out the recipes here.

We are not locked down in our houses, we are actually safe in our homes. Staying at home is the best that we can do in order to stop this pandemic.

Since our times outside should be limited to important things only, our supplies are limited. We should be innovative enough to make our food last longer than what we are used to.

So, I compiled some of the recipes here that can help to make the stocks last longer.

Ampalaya Con Carne

Ampalaya is cheap and with proper handling, can be stored for many days. Also, a medium one can already feed up to 4 people. This ampalaya con carne recipe will show you a technique on how to slice the vegetable super-thinly, thus, it won’t become too bitter when cooked.

Adobo

Adobo is one of the best and definitely, the most delicious ways to preserve foods. Plus, the longer you keep it, the more the meat sips the sauce.

What I also like about cooking this dish is that can you dump all the ingredients at once and be back when it forms the sauce. Though not so applicable to bored family members, you can cook lots of it and then keep it in the fridge.

Chicken Nuggets

Making your own chicken nuggets will save you time, money, and you can even make it healthier by adding grated vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, turnips, and many many more.

Now that’s one cool way to nourish kids in this quarantine period.

Banana Fritters

Cardava banana is one fruit that has a long shelf life. Buy the green ones and leave for a couple of days when you are in the mood to cook. For easy snack food, you can try this maruya recipe — it’s fun, easy, and of course, delicious.

Ginisang Monggo

Monggo or Mungbeans are cheap, easy-to-store, and flexible. You can use it for desserts and for savory dishes like Ginisang Monggo.

Though this recipe requires patience, it’s inexpensive and super appetizing. Best paired with fried fish, hot rice and spicy fish sauce.

Vermicelli and Meatballs Soup

Sotanghon or vermicelli noodles are also cheap, easy-to-stock, won’t easily spoil, and when cooked, they will double in size. Meatballs, on the other hand, are delicious and one of the best on-the-go meals.

The two can be a lethal combination. With them, you can cook vermicelli and meatballs soup.

Crab and Corn Soup

Just in case you are able to purchase a crab, don’t throw the stock after boiling it. You can keep it and then later use it to add flavors to dishes. You can also make Crab and Corn soup out of it.

The recipe is better because it uses fresh crab and corn flavor. You can also make it unlimited.

Cordon Bleu

Making cordon bleu is never easy. However, you can make a batch and pile pieces in the freezer and fry them whenever you want.

This cordon bleu recipe doesn’t involve a flattened chicken breast. It’s grounded and therefore, more flexible. You can also add vegetables such as onions, garlic, bell pepper, and many more to make it more flexible.

Make Homemade Burger Steak

Make kids feel that they are enjoying a fast food meal with this burger steak recipe. You can also make it healthier by adding natural ingredients like onions, garlic, onion spring, carrots, potatoes, and apples.

Tuyo Soup

Tuyo or salted dried fish is a favorite of the Filipinos. It is also considered as the poor man’s fish because it’s cheap and can be bought everywhere.

For this tuyo soup recipe, you need to make crunchy tuyo flakes that will be added at the latter part of the cooking process.

Stay Intact, Stay Safe

Cooking meals for your family, especially this pandemic season is paramount. It doesn’t have to be extravagant because of our limited supply. However, we can make it delicious and worthy.

Remember we can keep our bored children, teens, parents, and other members of the family by providing delicious meals.

Pork Mechado recipe involves kasim and vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and peas. This recipe of mine doesn’t involve sugar.

“High risk, high reward,” the pastor said in one of the church sessions I attended. It sent chills to me because I admit, I’ve been playing safe in my whole adult life.

It pushed me to take a risk and look for an interesting adventure of my life and if I’ll have the chance, I’ll blog about it.

Read: Pork Bistek Recipe

When I revealed this move of mine to my father, while cooking pork mechado for lunch, he frowned. He gave a piece of advice but to be honest, I didn’t listen that much. I’m decided to push my career to the next level. Sorry, paps!

Here is Pork Mechado recipe:

Ingredients:

1/2 kilo pork should (kasim), cleaned and sliced

1 medium potato, peeled and chopped into cubed

1 medium carrot, peeled and chopped

1/2 cup green peas

Medium red bell pepper, sliced

3 pieces medium tomatoes, cleaned and sliced

3 cloves garlic, chopped

1 medium onion, chopped

3 cup tomato sauce

Water

Oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Procedure:

In a pan, boil the pork until the water runs out. This will make the meat tender. Set aside.

In another pan, saute garlic and onion. Let it simmer for a while.

Add the tomatoes and about 1/2 cup of water. Then. let it boil for a few minutes until the tomatoes disintegrate.

Put the tomato sauce.

Add the pork meat, carrots, green peas, and potato. Then, add about 1/4 cup of water and let it boil.

Put under a low fire and the slices of bell pepper.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Turn off the stove and cover. Let it sit for a few minutes.

Serve and enjoy.
